Objective: To determine the relationship between the Ampalaya (Momordica charantia) use and glycemic level among diabetic patients ages 30-70 years in Zone 4, 5, and 6 Barangay Sto. Domingo Binan Laguna.
Methods: A total of 30 previously diagnosed diabetic patient in Zone 4, 5 and 6 Brgy, Sto. Domingo Binan Laguna participated in the study, baseline random blood sugar and ampalaya preparation, parts, frequency and duration of used was obtained.
Result: Result of the study shows a significant relationship in term of duration of ampalaya use with a p value of 0.05772 but no significant relationship in terms of frequency (p value:0.37) and preparation (p value: 0.41).
Conclusion: The duration of ampalaya used is effective in lowering the glycemic level among diabetic patient but no effect was seen in terms of parts and frequency of ampalaya used.
Recommendation: 1. Use other parameters to measure glycemic level. 2. Increase the duration of exposure of ampalaya. 3. Use other recipes that are cost effective and easy to made.
